It was another great show from The Dear Hunter.  It was one of those performances that makes you a little bummed out they are opening up in an early slot and restricted to only thirty minutes of set time.  The set they played was pretty amazing. High energy, a lot of on stage fun, and a decent mix of songs to give the audience an idea of what they do.

    _dsc8515

The Knitting Factory did good with the lighting and sound for them too.  Everything went well from a production point of view for them.  The audience had a real good reaction to their set too. Everything seemed to fall into place for them during their set.

It was exciting hearing the audience’s reaction to Casey announcing the band will be back with Thrice.  An enthusiastic roar was their reply to the news and those coming will be glad to know they can expect more songs during that tour from The Dear Hunter.  I can’t wait. =)

    WoW! These are overdue!

RX Bandits headlined the show with dredg. They are taking turns headlining shows this tour. It was appropriate for them to have the Anaheim date, being that they are local.

    _dsc5015

It was a really good concert. The RX Bandits fans are a great crowd! Even the ones that were not there for dredg were really open to the music and very courteous.

    _dsc4973

Once RX Bandits came on they knew the drill. Everyone there for the band erupted into dance and jumping around. It felt like an old 311 concert. The vibe was awesome!

    _dsc4888

RX Bandits are pretty insane musicians. I didn’t realize just how talented the guys are from the CDs. That’s one of the pitfalls of not being a trained musician. Seeing the music played live and watching the movements involved on the instruments really makes it clear the difficulty of some parts.

The only downside to the show was the lack of a lighting technician that understands how to light a band.

The guys are all very energetic. It was a lot of fun for sure. Highly recommended to see!

The final show of the tour. It was as good as the last four I saw.

    _dsc6870 _dsc6832

Loads of energy. Nice subtle changes in the drum solo and bass solo. Worth seeing a fifth time =)

    ouch.

    ouch.

The only change for the worst from the other nights was a dude flying out of the mosh pit and into my face. haha.

    _dsc6977 _dsc6710

Other than that, it was just like the last entry. Lots of fun =)

Enjoy the photos and see a few of you cool people next tour =):

The shows just keep getting better on this tour.

It is pretty much the same as the last three I covered. The addition of the crowd knowing the new songs and singing along and the evolution of Pnut’s bass solo are the key factors that enhanced the whole experience.

    _dsc5954

Pnut played a sick solo tonight that featured him on a 10 string Warwick bass. It functioned just like a 12 string guitar.

    _dsc6230

The sounds he made on this thing were astounding. I stood their with my mouth open the entire time. Even while I shot photos. Again, I wished Trevor Martin was there to witness it.

Good thing I made friends with a girl taping it. I’ll get him the video. =)

It has been a long time since I have seen Incubus. I really stopped caring due to the live shows lacking the energy they once had.

    _dsc5254

I went into this tonight not expecting much. I saw they were coming to town and decided to give them a chance due to it being a few years later and, well, I just missed seeing them.

    _dsc5489

Good or bad, it would still be fun.

I gotta say…I was very impressed and excited by what I got.

    _dsc5332

The band seems to have finally found their rhythm together with Ben Kenney (the bassist that replaced Dirk Lance). The man seems much more comfortable and natural on stage now.

They all seemed to be having a great time up there. The crowd was super fun. A lot of sing a longs and energy.

    _dsc5203

It felt like an old school Incubus concert. The set list was very good too.

    _dsc5494

There was a good mix of material from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and the albums following it. I was so happy to see them play Redefine. =) Ben slapped the shit out of his bass. That was something he didn’t do quite so well the last time I saw them.

Incubus also redid the way they approach acoustic songs. It is a lot more intimate feeling even though a few of the songs include the entire band playing acoustic. It just feels less staged than seeing just Mikey and Brandon play together.

    _dsc5623

Extra enjoyment came from seeing Brandon play his djembe and didgeridoo. I missed that.

All you old school fans better go check out this tour. It was a treat.

It was a great night =) I made some awesome new friends too. I owe them a print for the beer they got me. ;)

    Enjoy the photos.

Such a great show. They player a wonder set list mixing up songs from El Cielo, Catch Without Arms, and Pariah…

    _dsc4717

The audience sang along more than I’ve noticed too. It was a really fun vibe at the HOB.

    _dsc4639

Fantastic energy all around. I think the RX Bandits fans are a cool group. It was RX’s hometown show so, the majority of the crowd was their for them. Even with that being the case everyone seemed very excited and open to hear dredg and see what they were about.

    _dsc4766

It was really fun seeing the band play some of the more interesting songs off El Cielo that show Gavin utilizing some fun creative ways to add effects to his voice. He didn’t bring out the trumpet but, it was still fun to watch.

    Ashley Tisdale at The Grove

My best friend Jacob plays with a lot of different bands and musicians.

    Most recently, Ashley Tisdale. haha.

    Ashley Tisdale at The Grove

I got to hang out with her band and catch the warm up and concert at The Grove. Her band is full of great guys and a cool ass lady. It was awesome.

    Ashley Tisdale at The Grove

We had some good catering, hijacked the offices of The Grove, made our own name tags, and got some sun.

It was a really fun show for what it is. A pop show.

I did love the chemistry between her and Jacob. That made the show a blast to watch. haha.

    Jason at the Key Club

I got to catch up with my pal Jason Evigan and his band After Midnight Project playing a bon voyage show at the Key Club.

They are currently on the Warped Tour and worth checking out if you’re looking for a fun rock show.

After Midnight Project at Key Club

Jason has spent a long time trying to find his way with his music and it seems like he finally found it.

The tunes are solid and the live show is great fun. He’s landed a good record deal with a label that seems to be in full support of the band and album, they’re getting some radio play, and playing non stop shows.

After Midnight Project at Key Club

It’s exciting to see a lot of hard work and tenacity pay off for him. =) Well, for him and our other friend Charles “Cary” Garwood. Jason has hired him on as their tour manager and it’s equally great to see him along for the ride.

They have a new album coming out in August. Be sure to give it a chance if you’re looking for something check out.

This show was fantastic. The vibe of the city, the people, the town scenery, and everything else was so much fun.

I drove up from LA and met up with my friends Jeffrey Lynn-Johnston (great musician, look him up) and Zach Wyckoff (aRefuge.com partner). It was their first time seeing the band. They were both excited.

    The Dear Hunter in SLO

Jeff had to buy a ticket and lucked out finding a kid selling it for under face value (even though there was a substantial line and need for tickets, haha). Shortly after Jeff got his ticket Zach met up with us and after a little delay getting my name +1 on the list we were inside.

The Downtown Brewery was a cool venue. It was really intimate, good sound for its size, and it of course had good beer.

The Dear Hunter played a great show. The whole crowd seemed to enjoy it very much and many were disappointed (yet again) that the band had to stop playing.

    The Dear Hunter in SLO

It was another night where it seems like the fans waiting for mewithoutYou were caught off guard by the energy and musical craftsmanship The Dear Hunter brings to the stage.

    The Dear Hunter in SLO

It was good to see the band members mingling with the crowd the rest of the night. It is one of those important traits more bands need to possess. They are all really cool guys to talk to and welcoming of conversations. It really complimented the night.

    The Dear Hunter in SLO

Casey and I had a good chat too. I know that guy is a friend of mine but, sometimes it takes a little something to realize just how good of a friend. He mentioned something I said to him years and years ago about making music and it caught me off guard he would remember. The dude is solid and I really hope we get to work together in the future and make some creative stuff together.

Honestly, I feel so compelled to do so because the guy inspires me so much. I just want to do what I can to make his art known around the world. I’m sure we can make that happen together.

Zach and Jeff had a blast and were just as bummed to see such a short set from the band. They had a lot of fun after the show partaking in the meet and greet too. haha.

It was a great day. I threw in some pics from around SLO. Enjoy the photos.

    mewithoutYou in Pomona

mewithoutYou is a pretty intense live show. The singer’s mix of singing, screaming, and spoken word delivery is quite a sight when you see it coming out of a frail man. It is nothing like you would imagine the voice to originate.

    mewithoutYou in Pomona

Mix that with masterful drumming that leads you on marches through the varied landscapes available to the imagination and you have quite a recipe for excitement.

The only downside to it all is the toll the music and lyrics seem to take in long doses on the mind.

The first thirty minutes are delightful. It is only after that point it feels a bit draining and your attention begins to flounder about, searching the room for a means to take a break from it all.

But, that is the only downside.

The band seem like a group of time travelers that were on vacation with their parents only to get lost in the 1700s for the duration of their childhood and then were catapulted into our present day time.

It is really fun to watch them all on stage and give us all a glimpse at something so different from what one would expect.

    mewithoutYou in Pomona

They are charming and energetic. Most of all fun.

mewithoutYou is certainly worth checking out. Just be prepared to take a break at the bar or the merch booths to give your brain a quick rest.
